As I gear up to visit Israel next week: Hamas gives fighters total freedom to avenge death of top terrorist

I can only hope to get a sudden unexpected reserves call - please let me have a Hammasnik between my M-16 sites next week. Please.

Not really surprised that the terror gang never does learn a lesson.

Hamas gives fighters total freedom to avenge death of militant
After Israeli commandos killed a senior Hamas militant in the West Bank on Thursday, Hamas' military wing spokesman said that "fighters in the West Bank have total freedom to retaliate for this heinous crime."

Abu Obeida, the spokesman of the Iz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that the Hamas military wing was considering its options in regard to retaliation within the West Bank, asserting that "the blood of the dead will not have spilled for nothing."

"Any target on Palestinian soil is a legitimate one," he said, having also accused the Palestinian Authority in contributing to the killing, according to channel 10 news.

"The home of the shahid was under the surveillance of the Palestinian Authority's security apparatus, and this proves a traitorous cooperation with the occupation. This security apparatus allows the occupation to do as it wants in the West Bank, and to pursue fighters," channel 10 quoted Abu Obeida as saying.

He stressed the fact that the Hamas fighters were given complete freedom to retaliate at any time or place they deemed appropriate, stressing that Israeli attempts to harm the organization will not diminish their will power one iota.

Tick Tock: So Long Lebanon, Hello Garbage-stan

Clock is ticking and Lebanon is all set to celebrate their version of a democracy where armed people tell you who to vote for and accuse you of being a spy for the only "real" enemy if you don't.

Good luck.

Regardless of the false elections results, we all know Hezbollah took over the country by force a couple of months ago. So what's the use?

Will the US state department TAKE BACK the arms and electronic equipment it gave the Lebanese armed forces and police following what's sure to come?

PS: Zevel in Hebrew is junk. Zballa - might be an Arabic version, might just be Israeli slang. On any case, we call the Hezbollah people Zballas: Pieces of shit.

When the land of cedar officially (not just de-facto) becomes the land of Zballa - they should appropriately rename it as well.

Garbagestan.

Check out the following comments exchange on the previous post (comments on zip-blog)

Hmmm, maybe you can explain to all of us how this report leaked? Who leaked it (Mossad agent?)? And why it leaked at this juncture(is it because every indication is that the opposition is going to win the elections)?

Posted by: ab

My response:
ab - are you serious, do you need me to explain this?

Of course not, you used the term "opposition" to describe the genocidal murderous terror gang which is an extension of the Iranian armed forces known as "Hezbollah" (army of god), or "Muqa'ama" - the resistance, or in completely false secular Lebanese PC terms: opposition.

Lebanese haven't the faintest idea what the meaning of Democracy is. In the land of cedar, the so called "opposition" uses arms to take over the streets of Beirut - who's the real enemy? Israel?! HA!

Lebanon isn't about to have real elections, because all the sane people have long ran away - no one is holding any hopes to normality and sanity.

Of course AB - everyone who acts against your interest of world domination of your cult is a Mossad agent. Tell yourself that as you beat the living crap out of yourself each ashura. May I please help you with that ritual? Can I bring some friends too?!

Huge: Hezbollah linked to Hariri murder

Hezbollah linked to Hariri murder, but - hey Lebanese, don't stop that from eliminating your country and replacing it with a proxy for Iran, formally known as Lebanon.

LEBANON: Report linking Hezbollah to Hariri assassination raises questions
In a bombshell report published Saturday, the German weekly Der Spiegel says the investigation into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is moving toward the conclusion that the Shiite militia Hezbollah was behind the attack.
Based entirely on an unnamed source or sources, the Spiegel report said Lebanese investigators monitoring cellphone usage in the vicinity of the car-bomb explosion that killed Hariri lucked into a breakthrough discovery.

According to the report, the cellphones were used exclusively for phone calls among the alleged assassins except for one instance when one of the suspects used a phone to call his girlfriend.

From that single call, investigators figured out the name of the operative. Allegedly, he was Abdul Majid Ghamlush, described as an Iranian-trained agent who belongs to a "special forces" unit of Hezbollah, according to the report, which then goes on to link him to higher-ups in Hezbollah, including a commander named Hajj Salim.

Most Lebanese believe Syria masterminded Hariri's assassination to maintain its slipping control over Lebanon, a charge Damascus vehemently denies.

Hariri was enormously popular among all Lebanese groups, and if it's true that the United Nations tribunal has concluded that Hezbollah was behind the assassination, it would have a huge effect on the country, where a critical election is being held on June 7.

But the story raises some unanswered questions. In addition to citing only an anonymous source or sources, it alludes to "documents" to bolster its claims, but they are neither described nor shown in the report.

Almost all of the Hezbollah operatives allegedly involved in the assassination are dead or missing. The Lebanese officer investigating the cellphones connection was killed, and Imad Mughniyeh, who oversaw the "special forces" unit, also was killed in Damascus last year, making the allegations tough to verify.

Although the report examines both Hezbollah's motives in wanting to assassinate Hariri and the tribunal's motives in allegedly keeping the accusations against the group under wraps, it leaves aside questions regarding the motive of the leaker, who timed the revelations just before the Lebanese elections and at a juncture when Israel and Washington are trying to coax Syria away from Iran and Hezbollah.

UK: Removing ads for Israeli tourism, the Arabs don't like it

Notice a few thing in the following article:

* Jihad Makdissi is the Syrian spokesman. With a name like this, no wonder the UK dhimmis were quick to punish Israel.

* The UK allows all sorts of smut - most of the time - on prime time. BBC America is constantly bleeped out - it used to not bleep out and every other word was foul. But they dare not offend their new Muslim overlords.

* A good mention of a recent decision by a British airline to erase Tel-Aviv from their maps - simply underscores how insane the UK has become.

London: Israeli poster withdrawn after complaints
An Israeli tourism poster is being pulled from the London subway after the Syrian Embassy complained that the map on it appeared to show the Golan Heights and Palestinian territories within Israel's boundaries, officials said Friday.

Britain's Advertising Standards Authority received more than 300 complaints about the ad, a promotion for the Israeli Red Sea resort town of Eilat, according to the agency's spokesman Matt Wilson.

The Syrian Embassy and pro-Palestinian groups complained about it because the featured map appeared to show the territories Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war - the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights - within the borders of the Jewish state, according to the Israeli Tourism Ministry and the British standards authority.

Syrian Embassy spokesman Jihad Makdissi said the move follows days of lobbying to get rid of the ad, which he called offensive. Although Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005, Israel maintains a tight blockade on the narrow strip of land and remains in the West Bank.

Israel's hold on the Golan Heights - a strategic plateau captured from Syria - is a particularly sensitive issue for Syrians. Damascus has said it will not make peace with Israel until the land is returned.

Israeli Tourism Ministry spokeswoman Shira Kazeh said the decision was made to pull the poster earlier than planned because "we don't mix politics and tourism."

Transport for London confirmed that the posters were being taken down, but referred further questions to CBS Outdoor Ltd., which manages advertisements on the London Underground railway.

A message left with CBS Outdoor was not immediately answered. A call placed with the Israeli Embassy in London was not immediately returned.

The sensitive politics of Middle Eastern mapmaking have posed problems for U.K. companies in the past. Last month British airline BMI apologized for excluding Israel from its electronic in-flight map.

Israeli media had reported that on BMI's London-Tel Aviv flights, Israel and most of its cities were not marked. Only Haifa was identified _ by its Arab name, Khefa.

BMI explained that the plane had been acquired from a defunct airline that flew to several Arab countries.

PS: What's the percentage of Muslims in London right now? From recent reports of people who went there - it sounds like it's almost completely a Muslim city. To that end, since the world powers keep insisting Israel should give away it's capital in a peace treaty - what should be the future fate of London? Should it be given away to the new Caliphate? Demographically - it has already been gifted.

And if that's not enough, the drug maker is also apparently run by Jews, further adding to the cabal!

Hillarious Arab Propaganda Photos from Gaza: Building Mud Houses

The stories and photos are all over the web, I guess the Hebrew discussion board I'm linking the photos from took it from a news wire. If you understand Hebrew and/or want to see all the photos click here.

Every propaganda photo-shoot from Gaza has to have barb wire in it. Never mind who put the barb wire, and if Israel is actually containing them in prisons - notice in the following photo that there aren't any barb wires around:

Is he pouring Camel piss to make the mud more similar to normal cement? Look, even this Camel piss guy is laughing this idiocy off. (Don't tell the AFP who pushed the story to many media outlets world wide)

Hey - why are they building a cement-blocks wall around the mud shit place? Didn't the AFP say they don't have any cement? Oh - I get it, Hamas took all their cement and only left them enough to surround the complex with walls (like mid-evil castles?!). Err, wait, AFP didn't report about Hamas stealing the building materials nor any background regarding why Israel is placing restrictions on Gaza imports... the stories all start and end with the terrorists allegations - never any true journalistic work.

OK - look, I get it, they like living in Camel piss and shit block made homes, but why mud beds? Did the evil jooooos prevent you from building normal beds? Why the stains on the cloth? Did the evil Joooos come at night and force you to piss in bed too?

When Bibi met Obama: They Agree on Nothing Except to Play Nice

The media was abuzz before the meeting, it was well known that they would disagree and the Israeli media likes to hyper ventilate regarding strained Israel-US relations when the administration disagrees with Israel's leadership. It happened before, many times. The reason I supported Bibi at the last election was because Bibi managed to withstand such disagreements when the last Democrat was in charge.

The warning signs and reasons to be wary are aplenty, however - it is within Israel's best interest, as it is in the USA's to maintain a friendly relationship regardless of political course taken. I believe both leaders recognize this, and while let the disagreements be visible - they both assure the Jewish public in Israel and in the USA: The friendship will withstand.

Barak expects 'serious dialogue' with US
The meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama marked the beginning of "serious dialogue" between Israel and the current administration, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday, praising the US president's intention to put forward a "comprehensive regional solution" to the conflict with the Arab world.

During a tour of OC Central Command, Barak was asked whether there were differences between Obama and Netanyahu on the Palestinian issue.

"It would be more correct to say that there was serious dialogue," Barak replied. "I spoke to Netanyahu last night after midnight and he updated me on some of the content [of the meeting]. I think that we are at the start of serious dialogue with the Americans. It will take time and will comprise all of the issues."

The defense minister said he was "happy to hear that Obama understands that the Iranian issue is very serious." Barak warned, however, that "the challenge is not only how to talk to them but what do we do if it turns out that the Iranians are continuing to consistently strive for a military nuclear ability."

An opinion on ynet:Bibi’s from Mars, Obama’s from Venus
Something like this was unheard of in Barak Obama’s White House. Since his inauguration on January 20, the young president met with more than 50 heads of state, yet there is no precedent for such lengthy meeting. Not at a time where the American president is forced to deal with a plethora of grave problems that do not allow him to waste time on a meeting without taking a tough decision in its course.

Barack Obama changed the rules of the diplomatic game in Washington, in the spirit of his pledge for change during the election campaign. He received Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a tête-à-tête that ran for longer than expected, while shunning protocol. Overall, the two leaders spent four hours together, mostly on their own and some of the time with their aides.

Title on Ynet: Obama says will present new regional peace initiative
Netanyahu, Obama leave White House meeting with significant gaps on issue of two-state solution. US president informs prime minister he intends to present a new regional peace initiative, probably during his trip to Cairo next month

Foxnews: Obama, Netanyahu Agree on Peace, Differ on Priorities
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday he is ready to restart Mideast peace talks right away as long as Palestinians immediately recognize the Jewish state.

Meeting with President Obama at the Oval Office, the new prime minister -- on his second tour as head of the Israeli government -- said he wants the Palestinians to have the powers to govern themselves, save for a few security measures that threaten Israel.

Netanyahu also appeared to differ from Obama, who on Monday called for a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians. Netanyahu made no specific mention of a separate nation for the Arab people.

"We don't want to govern the Palestinians, we want to live peacefully, we want them to govern themselves absent a handful of powers that could endanger the state of Israel. And to this end there is a clear goal, the goal has to be an end to conflict," Netanyahu said while taking questions from reporters in the Oval Office.

Don't misunderstand, this was not a love letter to Obama... It is what I understand from the news reported, despite deep disagreements - Obama (for now?) will play nice with Israel and not seek to punish and pound it as some have expected. Does he recognize Israel's independent mandate better than prior presidents?

Anti-Semites Crash an Israeli Independance Party

In Argentina, not Ann Arbor. Not that the Anti-Semites weren't there yesterday, the police kept them out. Anti-Semites (Arabs) have nothing better to do than chase little kids scream hateful shit at them and try to beat them up.

Jews and anti-Semites clash in Argentina
At least five people were arrested Sunday after a clash between anti-Semitic demonstrators and Jews in Argentina.

The fighting broke out when demonstrators waving anti-Semitic signs crashed a Buenos Aires ceremony held by a Jewish group marking Israel's 61st Independence Day, which was celebrated last month.

An anti-discrimination police unit had to escort Israeli Ambassador Daniel Gazit away from the scuffle, AFP reported.

Argentina's large Jewish community has been targeted by two deadly terror strikes.

In 1994, 85 people were killed and 300 were wounded in a car bombing at the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires, and two years earlier, 22 people were killed and 200 were hurt in an attack on the Israeli embassy.

P.S. I think I saw one of the JCC signs at Ann Arbor that was directed outwards from the building - where the Arab ass holes were screaming - which had a Palestinian flag and Israeli flag drawn on it with the word Piece. The general atmosphere towards the hateful weirdoes outside the gates was: who cares? ignore those nutjobs.

US Court: PLO and Palestinazi Authority to pay terror victims

After losing the trial (by not appearing in court - how smart), and told to pay 116 Million, the Arabs claimed it would bankrupt them, so they thought it was a good enough reason to avoid paying. Judge said: no asshats, that's the point!

US judge passes ruling in terror attack
The Palestine Liberation Organization and its governmental entity cannot overturn a court judgment forcing them to pay more than $116 million for a Hamas terror attack that killed a US citizen and his wife, a federal judge ruled.
The case is among a handful in America filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1991, which seeks to hold terrorist organizations responsible for the killings of American citizens.

In a ruling Wednesday, US District Court Judge Ronald Lagueux rejected a request from the Palestinian defendants asking they not be held responsible for the 1996 shooting deaths of Yaron Ungar and his Israeli wife, Efrat, near the city of Beit Shemesh.

The judge, who first ordered the Palestinian defendants to pay in 2004, blamed their loss on a legal strategy set by the late Yasser Arafat, who refused to recognize the jurisdiction of the US court.

"These choices were the intentional, deliberate and binding decisions made by the PA's dictatorial leader," the judge wrote. "Defendants must now accept the consequences of these decisions."

Legal proceedings are under way in the United States, Israel and other countries to take money from the PLO and the Palestinian Authority, said David Strachman, an attorney for the estate of the Ungars, who had two children. Only a modest sum has been collected so far, he said, declining to be more specific.

"Judge Lagueux confirmed once again their culpability and their obligation to pay to the Ungar orphans and their family," he said.
It was unclear Thursday if the PLO and Palestinian Authority would appeal, said Deming Sherman, an attorney representing them. He declined to comment further on the case.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for a fatal attack on June 9, 1996, near Beit Shemesh.

Ungar and his wife were driving home when another vehicle driven by three Hamas gunmen pulled alongside them and opened fire. The couple was killed, but their 9-month-old son survived; another son wasn't in the car.

Relying on the 1991 anti-terrorism law, representatives for the couple's estate filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Providence. The lawsuit said the Palestinian Authority and the PLO offered a safe haven to members of Hamas.

The judge ordered a default judgment against the PLO in 2004 after it refused to make witnesses - including Arafat - available for depositions and wouldn't share information with lawyers for the Ungars, which is required under court rules.

Lawyers for the PLO promptly tried to overturn the judgment, saying it should have been allowed more time to mount a defense that it was a sovereign government that couldn't be sued. The 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston rejected that argument.

In December 2007, the PLO and Palestinian Authority asked again to overturn the judgment, this time saying they weren't responsible for the attack and didn't understand US court rules.
The defendants accused Hamas of staging the attack to disrupt peace negotiations the Palestinian Authority was carrying out with the Israeli and US governments.

The judge previously ordered that Hamas must pay more than $116 million for its role in the attack. Hamas has never hired a lawyer or contested the case.

Happy Nakba Day, May they have many more

First, notice it is reported as "Nakba celebrations"

Fatah accuses Hamas of trying to block Nakba celebrations in Gaza

Second, a barrage of propaganda regarding "Nakba" - disaster in Arabic, where hundreds of thousands of Arabs born after 1948 anywhere but Israel, claiming they want to return to "their home" inside Israel:

Thousands of Palestinians mark Nakba Day: We want to return to our homes

So I have two comments:
1. What is "Nakba" truly? It's when you shoot yourself in the foot, blame your neighbor, get fed by the world for 60 years while all you do is plan and commit murder upon thy neighbor.
2. Happy Nakba Day, May those whose only desire in life is to hurt others have many more.

Staged propaganda photo brought to us by AFP. In this photo we see a man dressed in drag, real age probably about 50, holding a beer bottle opener and opening mouth in anticipation of world to continue feeding him for the next 60 years.

Mother's Day (last week): Hamas celebrates moms who send kids to commit suicide bombing

As backspin blog reported:

It's strangely appropriate that National Geographic happened to release this feature about Mariam Farhat in time for Mother's Day. Farhat (a.k.a. Umm Nidal) sent three of her sons to die in suicide missions against Israel; Palestinians in turn elected Farhat to their parliament.

In Gaza, criticizing Farhat is like attacking mom and applie pie. Most disturbing about the video is that this woman isn't finished sacrificing her children to the Molech of martyrdom.

Obama: May is Jewish Heritage Month

Urrr... who needs this? You know - there are only 12 months a year, will each and every month be dedicate to some minority heritage?

To emphasize how unnecessary this is: 76% of American Jews vote for Democrats regardless of the candidate or the agenda. So this latest move bought Obama 0 new votes.

From what I read - he declared May 2009 a heritage month, so there's hope it won't be an annual occasion (like other American "heritage months").

Can anyone say "distraction"? I mean, I'm pretty sure there are other hot press issues to deal with... what do I know.
Obama: May is Jewish Heritage Month

OK - one more note: He declares May 2009 a heritage month, on May 13. So in all essence - it's half a month. Insulted? Also, usually "heritage months" are elementary school items - since all schools are busy wrapping up the year, the proclamation is literally fluff. Thanks for nothing.

Chutzpa! New York Times trying to dictate Israel's policies?

Be gone lefty propaganda rag. How long does it take for that toilet paper publisher to go under?!

The New York Times Pravda lectures Israel on what it should do, shouldn't do, what it should say to Obama and how to use it's military force. Who asked you?!

Any other country or world leader that the NYTimes have lectured to like that? How about some advice to Iran, Russia and China? Should do this, shouldn't do that - FUCK YOU NY-TIMES! Who the fuck do you think you are? Just dishonest and discredited liberal douchebags.

Ynetnews: Op-Ed: Netanyahu shouldn’t force Iranian issue on US
New York Times editorial urges Israeli PM not to pressure US administration into unnecessary moves regarding Tehran, hopes Obama will resist any pressure by Jerusalem

With US President Barack Obama's administration preparing for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's nearing Washington visit , the New York Times has marked it with a featured editorial, which includes a list of recommended dos and don'ts.

The first advice the paper gives Netanyahu is not to "artificially force" Obama to end his Iranian overtures. The paper also calls on the American president to reject any attempt by Netanyahu "to lead Israel, or push the United States, into unnecessary military action."

The Times also referred to the pressure Obama is likely to exert on the Israeli PM regarding the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, suggesting Netanyahu may try to link the two, and urged Obama to resist.

Obama is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with Middle East leaders next week: The meeting with Netanyahu is set for Monday; Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will arrive in the White House on May 26 and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the 28th.

The Obama administration, added the editorial, has set a clear agenda regarding its relations with Israel. It would like to see real progress on the two-state solution, halting of settlement construction and the removal of unnecessary IDF checkpoints in the West Bank.

The Times believes Obama should avoid making the same mistakes as his predecessor George W. Bush, who procrastinated the Israeli-Palestinian peace process; a move the paper claims hindered US interests in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran and gave al-Qaeda and other extremist groups "a reason" to form an anti-US front.

The editorial makes note of the immense difficulties in the negotiations, and the internal strife between the Palestinian factions – which it names as one of the reasons for the stalled process – but nevertheless, it claims that the region's moderate nations, the likes of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, may help push the peace process and curb Iran.

The Times offers a possible scenario, suggesting that Obama will ask the Arab leaders he meets after Netanyahu to launch direct negotiations and diplomatic relations, as well as commercial ones.

Pessimism may be a Mideast norm, concludes the editorial, but such steps may dramatically change the situation.

Reminder, NYTimes publishes Nazi propaganda cartoon.

People should listen to the New-York times for advice, right after Barney Madoff's advice.

Thinking of traveling to Israel? If it's good enough for the Pope...

Check out the Israeli government tourism site, not bad at all:
tourism.gov.il

I bet you'll have even more fun than this guy did:

There were a few controversies with the pope's visit. I would say: ignore, it's idiotic. Some nutcases (mainly Arab but a few Jews) - try to turn any such event into a propaganda theme. IMHO it was a peaceful religious tour of the pope, and one should not expect any more or less than that. It's Israel's best interest to hold good relations with the catholic church. Knee jerk hate reactions will not help anyone.

Looks like there quite a few proud Israelis who were happy to greet the pope and wave Israel's flags at the same time.

I bet you won't find pictures of the pope having fun at the Dead Sea:

You could... if you take a vacation there.

Comedy central panders to Hamas supporter Cat Stevens

To Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: FUCK YOU (isn't that what you guys said to Rush and Cramer and others? Isn't that the level of discourse between 11pm to 12am at Comedy Central?)

I saw the promo on a commercial break on Comedy central, and on Colbert's site it says he'll be hosting the Hamas fund raiser at 14th of May.

Ha-ha, they are SOOOO funny, not. Who's the next "star" to pander to? Hitler?

So what if Cat used to be a peacenik hippy - he contributed money to Hamas. How much more clear could that be? He converted and is practicing his new "religion" in mosques where radicals preach hate and murder.

Arabs in Co-Existence town of Akko set fire to Yeshiva

They admitted to doing the crime out of hate for Jews. As revenge for "how the Jews hurt the Arabs" in the Arab riot against Jews that happened last Yom Kipur.

The article is in Hebrew, auto translated: here.

I abhor these racist riots and condemn both sides. I put the blame on the 2000 Arab on Jews riots which coincided with the "2nd Intifada". Out of the blue, with no reason, Arabs all over Israel - including Akko - thought it was prime time to violently attack Jews. At that point, a certain calm and peaceful co-existence was shaken and destroyed for generations.

Hate and distrust will linger for many years to come.

Obama to CA: How dare you deal with your fiscal crisis responsibly? I'll take the "money to burn" away!

Let's say you have a son, who's been a loser in his financial life. He eventually reaches rock bottom and begs you to pay off his debt or the loan sharks will cut off his dick. He promises he'll stop doing heroin if you just help this one last time.

Would you then say: I'll pay only if you CONTINUE injecting Heroin!

Well, Obama just told California to keep the Heroin or else!

Is this country run by financial lunatics?

U.S. threatens to rescind stimulus money over wage cuts
-- The Obama administration is threatening to rescind billions of dollars in federal stimulus money if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers approved in February as part of the budget.

Schwarzenegger's office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials.

Obama renews sanctions on Syria: Recognition of failed early term appeasement efforts

First consider these reports:
U.S. Talks In Syria Intensify

Despite U.S. Outreach, Syria Affirms Iran Ties

Followed by this recent breaking news
US renews sanctions against Syria
The Obama administration has renewed its sanctions against Syria for another year, citing a continuing “national emergency” facing the US from Syria’s support for terrorist organisations and weapons trade.

The sanctions were extended after Jeffrey Feltman, a senior state department official, held “constructive” talks on Thursday during his second visit to Syria in as many months, as part of a drive to improve relations with Damascus.

The sanctions, which were introduced by the Bush administration in 2004, will remain in place for another year, a state department official told the Financial Times.

The executive order mainly affects weapons trade, Syrian Air, and the property of people with links to anti-Israeli groups including Hamas, Hizbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

It was introduced to crack down on Syria’s suspected support for terrorism and terrorist leaders, and alleged support for insurgent groups in Iraq.

“The national emergency with respect to Syria remains in effect because Syria continued to not meet its international obligations. We continue to have serious concerns about Syria’s actions,” the US official said.

I'm not celebrating this failure (despite many "told you so" moments). It would be great if Syria would join the western civilization and march towards peace and tranquility. But then again, unicorns are seen only in dreams.

Reality bites. Welcome back from dreamland.

Al Jazeera airs Call for biological attack on US

Jihad TV, soon on our basic cable package. Great.

Al-Jazeera Airs Call for Biological Attack
Al-Jazeera recently aired footage of Kuwaiti professor Abdallah al-Nafisi. In the video, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Nafisi expresses ardent support for terrorism, and suggests that terrorists use biological warfare against the United States in order to kill hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Nafisi also suggests that Muslims pray for the success of white supremacist groups that seek to carry out attacks within the U.S.

In addition, Nafisi attacks those in the Arab world who he perceives as traitors, to laughter and applause from his audience. Among those in the Arab world who should be silenced using “any means possible” are journalists who oppose terrorism, anyone who supports dialogue with Jews, and senior Palestinian Authority officials Saeb Erekat and Mahmoud Dahlan, Nafisi says.

One group that has won Nafisi's support is Hamas. According to Nafisi, Hamas' virtue is made clear by the fact that its politicians are personally involved in attacking Israel.

Another group Nafisi praises is Hizbullah, which he claims has advanced weapons laboratories and even exports weapons to eastern Europe.

Friday's Israeli Dish: Burekas

Just looking at this photo gets me drooling.

(Image found on flickr)

You might know them as apple or cherry turn-overs, but in Israel the bakeries stuff the pastry puff with potatoes or cheese (preferably cheese) - and sell them by the pound. It's delicious. Here in the US, you might find in Hiller's frozen packages of Israeli Burekas - but they're just over priced.

Here's one recipe option.

Unmanned Ground Vehicle: A wasteful toy or a serious combat tool?

I already expressed my skepticism of it when I first heard of it. I think I posted about it about 2 years ago.

The following video is in Hebrew, but I think you would get the gist even if you don't understand the narration:

I can definitely see the uses in having mobile unmanned eyes around a combat scene. Not sure I appreciate the capabilities as a patrol replacement. Besides driving cameras - it serves no physical purpose. It's an extension of the unmanned drones used by tiny units, except the view is even more restricted.

I'm pretty sure the manufacturers will tell you a whole different speech about it's combat uses. What do I know - it's just an impression from watching a video.

Green Stunt: Google-Goats Mow Lawn, unaware - Goats Emit CO2 as Well

Does a lawn mower working for 4 hours emits more CO2 than a heard of goats? How about the "residue" being emitted?

Look - I'm all for cattle mowing my lawn, less manual labor, smoke stench, and you get the benefit of the soil being "auto-fertilized". But the asshattery evident here, is the claim that Google is saving the environment by this. Please.

Google's New Pet Project -- Google Goats
High tech Google is resorting to some surprising measures in its quest for green

Internet search provider Google is undeniably a king of high tech with some of the world's most advanced server farms, arguably the best (or, at least the highest traffic) search engine in the world, and its own smartphone OS. So some would be surprised at Google's latest drive in its quest to green its business and protect the environment. Google is going for the goats.

Visitors to Google's headquarters saw something unusual this last week -- a pack of hungry land animals. The playful creatures were devouring Google's lawn. Did Google know about this strange incident?

It turns out it did, and in fact engineered it. Dan Hoffman, Director Real Estate and Workplace Services at Google, writes, "At our Mountain View headquarters, we have some fields that we need to mow occasionally to clear weeds and brush to reduce fire hazard. This spring we decided to take a low-carbon approach: Instead of using noisy mowers that run on gasoline and pollute the air, we've rented some goats from California Grazing to do the job for us (we're not "kidding")."

He continues, "A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time. The goats are herded with the help of Jen, a border collie. It costs us about the same as mowing, and goats are a lot cuter to watch than lawn mowers."

One would figure that such zany ideas would arise from a place where employees play in sea of colorful balls on their breaks. It is amusing to note, though, how some of Google's best green solutions are decidedly low tech (though others, like its servers are really complex).

Google did not release a comment on whether it got any extra perks -- like goat milk or cheese

France: Murder Trial Puts Focus on French Anti-Semitism

But... but... Shimon Peres told us that there is no anti-semitism in France.

The following photo is of relatives of murderers of Ilan Hallimi:

May they burn in hell, soon.

Murder Trial Puts Focus on French Anti-Semitism

The murder of Ilan Halimi was an anti-Semitic crime. That fact, with which virtually everyone in France now concurs, was established at the opening of the trial this week in Paris of the self-styled "Gang of Barbarians" charged with kidnapping, torturing and then killing the young Jewish man. And although acknowledging Halimi's death as a hate crime may seem like stating the obvious, it's a far from insignificant detail in a country that has tended to minimize the bias aspect of past violence against Jews.

From the opening moments in the trial of 27 youths accused of involvement in the February 2006 abduction, persecution, and murder of Ilan Halimi, the anti-Semitic attitude and motivations of alleged gang leader Youssouf Fofana became quite clear. Previously, Fofana had told police he and his cohorts had chosen to kidnap Halimi for ransom because the victim and his family were Jews and therefore, Fofana believed, they had to be rich. But once in court, Fofana sought to frame his behavior in jihadist language: After shouting "Allah'u akhbar" at the court, for example, Fofana gave his name as "Arabs, African, Revolt, Armed, Barbarian, Salafist [the literalist Muslim puritanism whose more violent incarnation is usually associated with al-Qaeda and other jihadist groups]." Later, Fofana, 28, appeared to taunt the victim's family by, among other things, giving his date of birth as February 13, 2006, the date of Ilan Halimi's death. (See photographs of Nazi Germany's Kistallnacht pogrom)

None of his 26 co-defendants echoed Fofana's tirades; most have minimized their participation in the kidnapping and torture by telling police investigators that they reluctantly participated for of fear of defying the intimidating Fofana. Some also admitted to investigators that Fofana's depictions of Jews as rich exploiters had jibed with the anti-Semitic comments often heard in the racially diverse, economically depressed housing project from which they hailed. Despite the rich-Jew stereotype embraced by many of the accused, the same impoverished milieu from which they came is also home to several large Jewish communities, often founded by Sephardic Jews forced out of France's former north African colonies after independence. These communities report mounting tension with their black and Arab neighbors in recent years.

At the time of Halimi's death, many commentators — and, initially, even the French police — declined to see Halimi's abduction and murder as an anti-Semitic crime. Instead, they explained it as a naive ransom attempt by plotters whose motivation was financial gain, even if their social milieu and limited education had led them to accept grotesque racist stereotypes of Jews. No one is offering such rationalizations any longer.

"Ilan Halimi was targeted because he was a Jew, and because his tormentors believed he had to be rich, and deserved what was coming to him," says Richard Prasquier, president of the Representative Council of France's Jewish Institutions. "This gang attempted kidnapping two people before Ilan Halimi — both Jews. They were not dissuaded upon realizing Ilan worked in a mobile phone store, didn't earn much, and came from a modest family that couldn't be rich. To them, he was a Jew, so he was victimized."

"If this crime wasn't anti-Semitic, what crime is?" agreed Laurent Joffrin in his editorial for the daily Libération as the trial opened. Joffrin warned that anti-Semitic thinking that has long been present among France's extreme-right and left wing political groups is now gaining traction in France's blighted suburbs. "In the exclusion of the projects, in the racism that strikes minorities, and in their social despair," Joffrin wrote, "the old plague has found favorable terrain."

The "old plague", of course, is also boosted by a tendency to hold France's Jews responsible for Israel's actions: Anti-Semitic attacks here tend to spike during outbreaks of violence between Israel and Palestinians. Prasquier noted the "disturbing surge of [anti-Semitic] acts in January, due to the war in Gaza". Previous outbreaks of Mideast violence in recent years have produced a similar effect in France, which is home to Europe's largest Muslim and Jewish communities — populations of around six million and 350,000 respectively. The 936 anti-Semitic acts reported in 2002, and 974 two years later coincided with flare-ups between Israel and the Palestinians. Those peaks — and perception among many Jews in France and abroad that French authorities had displayed insufficient concern or reaction — led Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in 2004 to denounce the "spread of the wildest anti-Semitism" in France. The only answer for French Jews, Sharon said, was immediate immigration to Israel for their own safety.

10 attorneys general defend Israel

Way to counter the recent claims of the US public either been bought by some shadow Jewish cabal, or that a majority in the US is turning against Israel. The letter they sent simply makes sense, unless someone is predetermined to blame and hate Israel regardless of facts.

10 attorneys general defend Israel
Attorneys General from 10 states defended Israel's military action in the Gaza Strip, in a letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The letter, sent last month, also condemned Hamas for what it called "war crimes" for its bomb attacks on civilian targets in southern Israel.

The attorneys general wrote that: "By intentionally targeting 6,300 rockets against Israel's civilian population, Hamas is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of a war crime in that it has violated … the Geneva Convention of 1949 which provides that '…the Parties to the conflict shall at all times distinguish between the civilian population and combatants and between civilian objects and military objectives and accordingly shall direct their operations only against military objectives.'"

"In addition to its war crimes committed against the Israeli civilian population, Hamas has also committed atrocities against the Palestinian civilian population under its control in Gaza by using these civilians as shields for its criminal conduct," the letter continued.

The officials concluded that: "Hamas' continuous rocket and mortar attacks on Israel's civilian population are a casus bellum. As in all wars, the appropriate response is not a 'proportionate one,' but one measured to bring about an end to the acts of war."

The America-Israel Friendship League said in a statement that it welcomed the letter by the attorneys general, calling it "a strong rejoinder to those who have castigated Israel over its role in Gaza and used it in an attempt to delegitimize the Jewish State."

Several of the attorneys general have visited Israel through an educational exchange program conducted by the league, which offers American officials the chance to become familiar with Israel's legal framework, security issues, and commitment to the rule of law.

The 10 attorneys general represent the states of Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Rhode Island, Utah and Washington.

You know which AG is the most surprising? Michigan, he has to face the Muslim population here... the judicial system in Michigan is known to be "flexible" when it comes to Muslims (not making personal accusations, this is the impression I received from stories I've read).

Onion: Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

Yea, where's the message of tolerance, bad acting, middle aged out of shape actors mimicking alien fighting, and lengthy details of intergalactic diplomacy... ;-)

Really Funny, and reminds me why I stopped watching Star Trek when I grew up (eventually...).

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

So what did Rahm say to AIPAC?

It's a 5th generation knowledge of what was said anyway you parse it.

Option I:If Israel does not surrender to a Palestinian state, the USA won't assist in challenging the Iranian threat

Option II:Obama suggested it would be easier to enlist support of Arabs to challange Iranian's nuclear ambitions

You be the judge.

You know, I really want to believe Obama is not anti-Israel in his beliefs. I just need more help to counter the perception. The perception I've accumulated by... reading the news.

Micheal Scheuer - An Antisemite: America's Jews should be destroyed

I dug up something from March 2009, that's two months ago. I was reminded of this person in an article I read, and thought to my self: I really hope the rest of the people who work at the CIA are not like him. Then I googled for some recent verifications of my impression of him. I was not let down:

Scheuer: Emanuel is a Treasonous Israel-Firster

I won't quote the whole post which discusses Scheuer (I recommend you click and read it all), just a snippet that includes Scheuer's comment in his own blog:

This is a good question, but the discussion will be feckless if it avoids what the moderator refers to as intimations that may be "ugly." Well, friends, ugly is here and it has been here for decades. There is indeed an identifiable fifth column of pro-Israel U.S. citizens -- I have described them here and elsewhere as Israel-Firsters -- who have consciously made Israel's survival and protection their first priority, and who see worth in America only to the extent that its resources and manpower can be exploited to protect and further the interests of Israel in its religious war-to-the-death with the Arabs. These are disloyal citizens in much the same sense that the Civil War's disloyal northern "Copperheads" sought to help the Confederates destroy the Union. The Israel-Firsters help Israel suborn U.S. citizens to spy for Israel; they use their fortunes and political action organizations to buy U.S. politicians with campaign donations; and most of all they use their ready access to the media to disguise their own disloyalty by denigrating as anti-Semites or appeasers fellow citizens who dare to challenge them. The Israel-Firsters are unquestionably enemies of America's republican experiment and will have to be destroyed as the Copperheads were destroyed -- by the people, after a full public deabte (sic), at the ballot box."

This person was in charge of finding Bin-Laden during Clinton's presidency. Figures.

Can someone ask the Fox-News guys to stop inviting him? What? They're still cozy and comfy with Pat Buchanan? Never mind.

It's amazing that such a horrific failure of career would allow a person to be titled "an expert on fighting terrorism". He's an expert only in his hate of Jews.

Must Read: The CIA's Fight With Obama

It ends with the following:
Other Western intelligence services regard the Obama administration with contempt and rising concern, an officer of the DGSE, France's military intelligence agency, told my friend Jack Wheeler (the real life Indiana
Jones) last week.

"All of us in our little community are worried -- us, our friends in Berlin, London, Tel Aviv," the DGSE officer told Jack. "It is not like the barbarians at the gates. It is every barbarian horde in the world being told there are no gates."

I'll only ruin it for you. You need to read this:

The following post is again "borrowed" without quotes to ease reading.

RealClearPolitics.Com: The CIA's Fight With Obama

Has Barack Obama made an enemy who can sabotage his presidency?

The presidency of George W. Bush began to unravel when some in high positions at the Central Intelligence Agency began waging a covert campaign against him.

It began in the summer of 2003 when officials at the CIA asked the Justice department to open a criminal investigation into who had disclosed to columnist Robert Novak that Valerie Plame, wife of controversial former diplomat Joseph Wilson, worked at the CIA.

The officials knew at the time the Intelligence Identities Protection Act did not apply to Ms. Plame, who'd been out of the field for more than five years.

Another blow was struck with the publication in 2004 of the book "Imperial Hubris" by Michael Scheuer, who'd headed the bin Laden desk during the Clinton administration. It was harshly critical of the Bush administration's conduct of the war on terror in general, and the invasion of Iraq in particular.

Never before had a serving officer been allowed to publish such a book.

The CIA typically slow-rolled and censored books even by retired CIA directors.

"Why did the CIA allow such a controversial book to be published in the first place?" asked attorney Mark Zaid, who specializes in national security law. "There is simply no question that the CIA could have prevented the publication of Scheuer's book if it had wanted to do so. And no court would have sided with him."

Why would some at the CIA want to sabotage President Bush? One motive might have been to deflect blame for intelligence failures. The CIA confidently had predicted Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. But none were found. The tactical intelligence the CIA provided to the U.S. military forces invading Iraq proved nearly worthless. And the CIA was caught flat-footed by the insurgency that developed several months after Saddam's fall.

There may have been a simpler motive. The novelist Charles McCarry was a deep cover CIA operative for ten years. "I never met a stupid person in the agency," he said in a 2004 interview. "Or an assassin. Or a Republican."

The CIA's war against President Bush was motivated by ass covering, or by political partisanship. But with President Obama, it's personal.

Many are furious about his disclosure of explicit details of the interrogation methods used on some al Qaida bigwigs, and his waffling on whether or not those who employed them will be subject to prosecution.

Others are incensed by his decision to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, and to let some of those incarcerated there (17 Chinese Uighurs) loose in the United States.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held two hush hush meetings with CIA Director Leon Panetta and Democratic members of the Intelligence Committee last week.

"Her fear and frustration have apparently given way to panic after word reached her of the CIA's reaction to the damage she, President Obama and other Democrats have done to the spy agency in the last three months, wrote Jed Babbin, a former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense, in Human Events May 1. "Pelosi learned that her actions and those of President Obama have so damaged CIA morale that the agency's ability to function could be in danger."

The upshot of the meetings was an unprecedented letter from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-Tex) to Mr. Panetta, making a quasi-apology. Rep. Reyes asked the CIA director to "disseminate it to the CIA workforce as soon as possible."

But the CYA nature of the letter, and Mr. Reyes' pledge of more oversight are unlikely to mollify many at Langley.

The Domestic Extremism Lexicon

I didn't pay much attention to this issue. I think the "lexicon" was rescinded as soon as it was "almost" published. Still someone wrote it, some high ranking stooge hand picked by Obama.

So I decided I'll just "borrow" a post from Moonbattery, who has sifted through and found the most ridiculous clauses of this report. Charles Johnson should be ashamed of him self for first picking side (against what deems right wing extremism by the media) - and sticking to his guns regardless of reality. So many people practicably worshiped him (not me), and are now just extremely disappointed. Read the following and decide for your self, how can you defend anyone who writes such a report (even if it is taken back).

Moonbattery: The Domestic Extremism Lexicon

In case you're wondering how the Department of Homeland Security spends the mountains of tax money shoveled into it — since our rulers clearly have no interest in defending the border or inconveniencing Islamic terrorists — have a look at the new supplement to the Newspeak dictionary entitled the Domestic Extremism Lexicon. This document is a useful accompaniment to Crappy Nappy Napolitano's study on the potential terror threat of anyone whose views fall to the right of Sean Penn's, and indispensible to aspiring apparatchiks who want to improve their vocabularies. A few sample terms:
alternative media: A term used to describe various information sources that provide a forum for interpretations of events and issues that differ radically from those presented in mass media products and outlets.

Simply by listening to talk radio or reading Moonbattery.com, you too could be taking part in domestic extremism. No wonder the government abandoned the War on Terror to focus on this far more prevalent threat.

antiabortion extremism: A movement of groups or individuals who are virulently antiabortion and advocate violence against providers of abortion-related services, their employees, and their facilities. Some cite various racist and anti-Semitic beliefs to justify their criminal activities.

I'll bet you didn't know that opposition to abortion is anti-Semitic. You see how much our wise government can teach us?

anti-immigration extremism: A movement of groups or individuals who are vehemently opposed to illegal immigration, particularly along the U.S. southwest border with Mexico, and who have been known to advocate or engage in criminal activity and plot acts of violence and terrorism to advance their extremist goals.

There follows a long list of examples. Just kidding; no examples exist.

This one is really scary:

patriot movement: A term used by rightwing extremists to link their beliefs to those commonly associated with the American Revolution.

Over 1 million of these fiends openly paraded their right-wing views just last Tax Day. Good thing Jane-O is here to protect the public with her various documents.

Janet-Napolitano.jpg
Wait until Jane-O gets her hands on those domestic extremists.

Shawarma Mayor Says:

So what does it make Jews who write/read blogs, oppose abortions (in last trimester - just as the supreme justice decided), believe immigration should be handled smoothly through legal processes and laws ought to be enforced (but changed, they are draconian), and believe in the constitution as what made the USA the greatest country on earth?

According to the new DHS: Extremist Radicals, Anti-Semitic, Violent against people of Mexican origin, mascaraing as those of who love the USA. Oh, yea, who happen to be Jewish. Makes sense, doesn't it?!

Perhaps in Bizarro world.

Reason #343,568 I write under a pen name. It seems the head of DHS would consider this blog to be the same awkward animal described above. When the thought police would care to interrogate me in their dungeons I'd like to state the following: Give me liberty or give me...

Good News: New York Times Downward Spiral Continues!

They've just announced raising the prices of their Monday-Saturday editions.

To which, a financial blogger wrote this:
Anyone who has ever taken an economics course knows the basic rules of supply and demand. When demand is high and supply is fixed, prices rise. Likewise, when demand falls and supply remains unchanged, prices fall. Given these basic rules of economics, one would assume that the newspaper industry would be cutting prices given the continued decline in their circulation rates. Last week, the Audit Bureau of Circulations announced that newspaper circulation in the six months ending March 31st declined by 7%, which was an acceleration of the declines seen over the last two reporting periods.

Less than one week after these figures were released, however, The New York Times (NYT) seems to think that the answer to weaker demand is higher prices. This morning, the Financial Times is reporting that the Times will raise the price of its Monday - Saturday editions to $2.00 (from $1.50) and the price of its Sunday paper to $6 (from $5). Higher Prices = Higher Demand? Adam Smith must be rolling over in his grave.

The day New York Times would close would be a decade or so too late.

Does a majority in US want Israel Penalized?

That's what a site in Abu Dhabi says regarding an April 18 poll by Zogby.

Majority in US want Israel to be penalised
Despite claiming continued support for Israel, a majority of US residents want a change in policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A decisive plurality said US aid to Israel is “too much”, and a majority want to see Israel penalised for building new settlements on Palestinian land.

These were some of the findings of a Zogby International interactive survey of 4,320 US adults conducted in April for the Doha Debate, a BBC programme based in Qatar. Zogby International is a polling firm headed by my brother John.

Support for Israel remains high, with 71 per cent of US respondents having a favourable attitude towards Israelis and only 21 per cent holding a negative view. Attitudes towards the Palestinian people, on the other hand, are in the inverse, with a favourable rating of 25 per cent and an unfavourable mark of 66 per cent. Even Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, is viewed positively by 52 per cent of US residents, while Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, is seen favourably by only 19 per cent – with an unfavourable rating of 59 per cent.

Establishing this support for Israel and strong negative views of Palestinians is important and makes even more significant the other findings.

...

Wait a second, a poll for BBC in Qatar? Did I miss out on something? BBC is a Qatari station - things seem to get a whole different meaning for me.

Regarding the "findings" - dare I say bogus and made up results? I think some Arabs are projecting their hate and bias here and misreading a poll or misreporting it. Regarding polls - it's always a question of how you phrase it - some questions are posed to deduct a predetermined result. For example:

Would you like Israel to return the land it stole from poor innocent Palestinians and the illigal settlements built upon be torn?
A. Most defenetly
B. Yes
C. Perhaps
D. If it promotes peace - then yes
E. I support Jews right to dwell in Israel, so I'm probably some kind of a bigot

(made up poll question, just an example)
"Interestingly", the BBC "debate" in Qatar hung on to that question to make a conclusion that 63% percent of Americans support penalizing Israel.

Another point to mention regarding polls - it's a question of which segments of the population you seek. If you conduct a poll in Dearborn Michigan - you'd get a whole different perspective than the rest of the US.

Sarcasm and skepticism aside. I'm still worried about misconceptions and shifts in public opinions. When leftism and ignoring reality rule - bad, bad craziness can prevail.

SF-Sentinal: COULD TALIBAN HAVE NUCLEAR BOMB BEFORE IRAN

Hypothetical? No more.

COULD TALIBAN HAVE NUCLEAR BOMB BEFORE IRAN
Just when you thought you knew the unthinkable - now there’s this:

“If the worst, the unthinkable, were to happen, and this advancing Taliban encouraged and supported by Al Qaeda and other extremists were to essentially topple the government for failure to beat them back,” Hillary Clinton said at the weekend, “then they would have the keys to the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan.”

The Sunni organization’s stunning momentum of late in taking over key territory in Pakistan raises the question, could the Taliban have a bomb before Tehran does?

The nightmare scenario of a nuclear Taliban was much in evidence in a Sunday editorial in The New York Times regarding the Pakistani military.

“And - most frightening of all - if the army cannot or will not defend its own territory against the militants, how can anyone be sure it will protect Pakistan?s 60 or so nuclear weapons?” the Times asked.

Clinton was right, the Times continued, when she warned last week that Pakistan was ‘abdicating to the Taliban.’”

Here in Israel - in the eerie interregnum between air raid sirens last week marking the memorial day for victims of the Holocaust and air raid sirens this week marking the memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism - the specter of a atom-packing Taliban lends an unaccustomed measure of uncharted territory to the all-too-familiar domain of the unthinkable.

In fact, as heavily as the prospect of catastrophe weighs during this period, Israelis may take a measure of cold comfort in the extent to which the Taliban relates to the Jewish state.

It doesn’t.

Perhaps alone of all radical Islamic movements, the Taliban has taken no interest in Israel. It makes no pronouncements, threatens no annihilation, it has launched no campaigns to organize in the West Bank and Gaza.

Were they to take over Pakistan, they would lack delivery systems capable of reaching Israel, even if for some reason they decided on such a course.

Nonetheless, for some reason that goes beyond reason, I’ve decided to clean out our bomb shelter anyway. Perhaps because a Taliban bomb might convince Tehran to redouble its own long-delayed efforts at achieving a nuclear capability. Or because a bomb in Pakistan could be moved to a neighboring country with delivery capabilities.

Or because a hardline coalition legislator has suggested that the Taliban threat is one of the best reasons yet to unilaterally and pre-emptively bomb Iran.

“If we take this action,” Yaakov Katz of the far-right National Union party was quoted as saying on Sunday, “the U.S. is likely to act the same way against the rising terror threat in Islamabad, Pakistan.”

Or maybe it’s because, at a time of serial unthinkabilities, a prepared shelter is just one less thing to have to think about.

World Bank - the latest UN body to be used for Anti Israel / Pro Palestinazi campaign

Because the world doesn't have any other real issues like a global financial crisis to deal with.

Israel: World Bank is 'ignoring facts'
The Foreign Ministry has blasted the World Bank's report on the alleged water shortage in the West Bank and Gaza which held Israel partly responsible and said the authors "ignored" Israel's position.

According to the report, which was published on April 20, Israel extracts 50 percent more water from the three aquifers it shares with the Palestinian Authority than it is supposed to according to the Oslo II Accords.

"Israel has fulfilled all its obligations under the water agreement regarding the supply of additional quantities of water to the Palestinians and has even extensively surpassed the obligatory quantity," the Foreign Ministry said in a formal statement this week.

The ministry spokesman charged that, on the other hand, the Palestinians had significantly violated their commitments under the agreement. He charged that the PA had drilled more than 250 wells without permission from the joint water commission and had failed to construct sewage treatment plants despite their obligation to do so. Instead, the spokesman added, the PA allowed the sewage to flow into streams, thereby polluting the environment and the groundwater.

According to the Israeli response, "the authors of the report met with Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) officials and were briefed on all the factual details. They were also presented with the Israeli position paper on the subject, which contained verifiable facts that contradict all the objections presented in the bank's report.

"Significantly," the response said, "the authors chose to ignore the MFA position and declined to take the facts presented to them into consideration in the published report."

The authors chose to rely "totally on unsubstantiated information" provided by the PA, "which raises serious question marks over the credibility of the report and the intention of its authors."

The World Bank study said that while the PA has many internal problems, it also suffered from effective Israeli control over the distribution of water resources between the two sides. Among other things, the bank charged that Israel controlled the joint water committee established by the interim agreement to deal with water issues affecting both parties.
