Senators Reach Tentative Deal on $811B Economic Stimulus Bill

Senators have reached a tentative deal on a version of President Obama's economic stimulus plan, including about $811 billion in spending and tax cuts, that will win enough Republican votes to move forward.

Sens. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Susan Collins of Maine appeared to be the critical Republicans to sign onto the bill, giving Democrats the 60 votes needed to advance to a final vote. Democrats also voiced confidence that Republican Sen. Olympia Snow of Maine also would vote for the plan.

It isn't certain when a vote would come, but sources indicate Sunday is a likely bet.

As part of the deal, spending in the bill was reduced while tax cuts were increased, for a mix of 58 percent spending and 42 percent tax cuts. A senior Democratic leadership aide said the White House was on board.

But Republican leaders still worry the bill contains too much spending on programs that won't stimulate the economy, with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell saying Friday night on the floor of the Senate arguing that "the big spending programs of the New Deal did not work."

Obama is pushing for the massive spending plan to jump-start the economy, which otherwise, he says, could be headed for "catastrophe."

I believe I heard Glenn Beck on O'Reilly today interviewed by Laura Ingram comparing this situation to the rise of Nazism, a bit alarmist to my taste.

Here's another hypothetical rhetorical question: If (and when) this bill causes more harm to the country, the economy, freedom and innovation - will the MSM be able to hide this from the public and continue portraying Republicans as evil and "racists"? Will the public buy into it 4 or 8 years from now - when Carter is but a distant memory shadowed by years of "engineered economy" (truely catastrophic) and the great depression seems like a minor hiccup in comparison.

President Barack Obama has told relatives of victims of the bombing of the USS Cole and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that his most important responsibility is keeping the U.S. safe.

Obama met with about 40 family members on Friday. The White House says he explained why he believes closing the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will make the country safer and ensure justice for the terror suspects being held there.

Obama is concerned that terror suspects have been held for years without trial. He has signed an executive order to close the facility within a year.

One woman who attended the meeting says Obama assured them he wants the same thing they do — justice for their loved ones.

President Obama is meeting Friday afternoon with the families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and the bombing of the USS Cole -- but some invited guests say they worry that the gesture is window-dressing, since the administration has suspended trials of detainees at Guantanamo Bay and a military judge on Thursday dropped charges against a suspect in the 2000 Cole bombing.

The military charges against suspected Al Qaeda bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri marked the last active war crimes case at Guantanamo Bay. New charges can still be brought against al-Nashiri, and he will remain in prison for the time being.

But at least two Cole families complained to FOX News that Obama should have met with them first, to hear them out, before a final decision was reached on the charges.

"We've already waited eight years for justice. Justice delayed is justice denied," said retired Navy Cmdr. Kirk S. Lippold, the commanding officer of the Cole when it was bombed in Yemen.

Lippold expressed disappointment that he learned from FOX News, not the administration, that the charges in the al-Nashiri case had been dropped. Lippold, who is a fellow with Military Families United, said he would be among family members of victims who are meeting with Obama at the White House on Friday afternoon.

Gary Swenchonis, a Texas resident whose son, Gary Jr., was killed in the Cole bombing, told FOX News he turned down an invitation from the White House to meet with Obama.

Swenchonis said he received the invitation Thursday, and that he did not care to travel from Texas to Washington on such short notice to hear the "bad news" that charges were withdrawn in the al-Nashiri case.

Swenchonis and his wife Deborah wrote a letter to Obama last week expressing their concerns about the halting of military trials at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

"President Obama, now I fear these sailors who died in the service of the United States will be abandoned again," they wrote. "It will be one more tragedy in a long list of tragedies in the Cole attack. ... Our fear is if the terrorists are tried here in our federal courts, they will go free."

Diane McDaniels, whose son was killed in the Cole bombing, also declined an invitation to meet the president, saying she was too disillusioned with Obama for dropping the charges.

"My son was blown up along with 16 others. I buried body parts for three years," she told FOX News. "I'm still suffering and now he's withdrawing the charges?

"There's nothing he can say to make me feel better," she explained, adding that Obama is sending the wrong message to the American people. "He may be the president but he's wrong."

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday ahead of the meeting that the president is still interested in "swift justice" for those responsible and that he wanted to take time to hear the cares and concerns of the families.

Thursday's legal move by Susan J. Crawford, the top legal authority for military trials at Guantanamo, upholds Obama's Jan. 22 executive order to halt terrorist court proceedings at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba, while the administration reviews the cases and how to go about closing the prison there.

Groups representing victims' families were angered by Obama's order, charging they had waited too long already to see the alleged attackers brought to court.

Conservatives in Congress have suggested that dangerous terrorists would be released under Obama's plan -- a scenario that Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he could not imagine -- and that Guantanamo Bay is a cushy deal for prisoners.

Texas Rep. Lamar Smith, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, issued a statement expressing his concerns about dropping the charges against al-Nashiri.

"Justice for the families and the victims has already been delayed too long. We must be careful not to send a message to our enemies abroad that we are letting up in our prosecution of the war on terror," Smith said. "The Obama administration's decision to close Guantanamo Bay was premature at best and dangerous at worst."

In a YouTube video posted from the prison this week, Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., said detainees' access to dental work, colonoscopies and other medical procedures is proof they aren't being mistreated.

"These people are much better taken care than they have been in their entire lives," he said.
Crawford's ruling also gives the White House time to review the legal cases of all 245 terror suspects held there and decide whether they should be prosecuted in the U.S. or released to other nations.

Seventeen U.S. sailors died on Oct. 12, 2000, when Al Qaeda suicide bombers steered an explosives-laden boat into the Cole, a guided-missile destroyer, as it sat in a Yemen port.

The Pentagon last summer charged al-Nashiri, a Saudi Arabian, with "organizing and directing" the bombing and planned to seek the death penalty in the case.

In his Jan. 22 order, Obama promised to shut down the Guantanamo prison within a year. The order also froze all Guantanamo detainee legal cases pending a three-month review as the Obama administration decides where -- and whether -- to prosecute the suspects who have been held there for years, most without charges.

Two military judges granted Obama's request for a delay in other cases.

But a third military judge, Army Col. James Pohl, defied Obama's order by scheduling a Feb. 9 arraignment for al-Nashiri at Guantanamo. That left the decision on whether to continue to Crawford, whose delay on announcing what she would do prompted widespread concern at the Pentagon that she would refuse to follow orders and allow the court process to continue.

Crawford was appointed to her post in 2007 by President Bush. She was in the news last month when she said interrogation methods used on one suspect at Guantanamo amounted to torture. The Bush administration had maintained it did not torture.

Last year, al-Nashiri said during a Guantanamo hearing that he confessed to helping plot the Cole bombing only because he was tortured by U.S. interrogators. The CIA has admitted he was among terrorist suspects subjected to waterboarding, which simulates drowning, in 2002 and 2003 while being interrogated in secret CIA prisons.

I'm pissed, I don't know how Democrats aren't. Terrorists are about to be set free, people who have murdered Americans - now how is that supposed to make anyone safe? Just a feel good day for ACLU extremists. And the extremist in the white house.

US President Barak Obama's nominee to head the CIA vowed Thursday to forbid renditions of detainees to foreign countries for the purpose of torture or other actions that "violate our human values."

Leon Panetta, a former lawmaker and White House chief of staff, was asked at a Senate hearing to confirm his nomination as director of the Central Intelligence Agency whether the agency would continue the practice.

"No, we will not," Panetta said.

"Because under the executive order issued by the president, that kind of extraordinary rendition, where we send someone for the purpose of torture or actions by another country that violate our human values, that has been forbidden by the executive order."

Panetta said some kinds of renditions of prisoners were "appropriate," citing as an example the rendition to France of Carlos the Jackal to stand trial on terrorism charges.

And he said the United States had the right to temporarily hold and debrief "high value" terrorist suspects captured overseas.

But Panetta said, "I do not believe we ought to use renditions for the purpose of sending people to black sites, and not providing the kind of oversight I believe is necessary."

In the above hadith we read that Ayesha was swinging, This is a play of little girls not grown up people. The following Hadith is particularly interesting because it shows that Ayesha was so small that was not aware what was going on when the Holy Prophet “surprised” her by going to her.

Underneath the video was the statement, “Make EVERY attempt to reach these people and teach them the message of Islam or leave them a message from Islam.”

A subsequent video and accompanying text clarified the “message” the Islamist blogger had in mind and how to “reach these people.”

The video first denies that any threats against Orthodox Jews were made on their website, but then switches to a montage of images of dead Arab children - apparently from Gaza - interspersed with repeated images of “770” – the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters – and a blood-spattered Jewish prayer book from a terrorist attack in the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva in Jerusalem.

The video concludes with the sound of gunshots.

The text under the video adds the following P.S.: "NYPD - It was me (Yousef al-Khattab) that made the Chabad Islamic propagation (sic) post and appeal. Do have your search warrants in order. The gunshots at the end in NO WAY are meant for the NYPD (since they asked me about it).”

Other Locations Targeted As Well
The videos followed the posting on the same jihadist site of photos of the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters and its main synagogue, its address at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, and details of the times when the synagogue is filled with worshippers.

The third and final video in a series of three aiming at the Chabad-Lubavitch community is narrated entirely by Al-Khattab, who appears to either be completely exhausted, or possibly even under the influence of a sedating substance of some kind. He is leaning back, with his eyes almost completely closed, his voice drawling.

He begins with what is apparently meant as disclaimer, saying his group is "not here to fight with Jewish people" and explaining that the bullet sounds are just a "sound wave" used for the videos.

The threats begin, however, a moment later: "An atrocity is done and an act of terrorist [sic] is done like what was done in Ghaza, when they indiscriminately bombed women and children, and just... I don't even know what to say... and we know where the source is, and the source is definitely 770 Eastern Parkway is one of those sources that funds it, and gives their spiritual support as well… and definitely Yeshiva University in Washington Heights, is another place that prepares students, religious Orthodox rabbinical Jewish students to be in the hesder yeshiva, which is the officer corps of the religious Jews, so yes, these are definitely the sources, and the Jewish Federation buildings, all over the United States, they fund it."

Al-Khattab continues: "In the eyes of the Muslim world... even the thinking Christian populace would agree -- that Israel is a war crime. We think it's imperative to bring to the forefront, hold these people responsible... find out who is the head of the Jewish Federation... give them the Islamic message... leave them the message of Islam. Let them know, that maybe they drew up those borders that they occupy, but our borders as Muslims are all over the place. Okay? That's not a threat, that's what it is, that's what it's gonna be.

"And wal-LAH hee, (Arabic for "truthfully" -ed.) New York City Police Department, CIA and FBI, you can put me in jail for the rest of my life, as long as I got that information out there for people to know what to do, I did something," Al-Khattab asserts.

'Tears of Today, Weapons of Future'
A new video posted this week, entitled "An Arabic Boy Threatens America For What It Did To…" shows an Arab boy who becomes increasingly upset and angry as he is interviewed during an apparent demonstration, ending his short diatribe in tears.

The video is preceded by the headline "Don't Wait for Obama's Change (Warning: External Links Are NOT Necessarily the Views of RevolutionMuslim.com)". This is followed immediately by the exhortation to Stand Up Against American and 'Israeli' Aggression (sic) and a media player with the YouTube video, uploaded by "EgyptianAnger."

At one point the boy bursts into tears and then shouts out loud, "We came here today to make them pay, those who attacked us, not to just talk… we will grow up, And Grap (sic) You From Your Land, America!!"

The video ends with the words, "Tears of Today, Weapons of Future."

Risk Management is Key, Warns Security Group
Al-Khattab is listed as one of three top leaders of the Revolution Muslim group, headed by Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal. Al-Khattab claims to be Jewish by birth, and has allegedly switched lifestyles numerous times.

The self-styled Islamist says in a personal blog that he was born a Morrocan Jew named Joseph Cohen, then traveled to the United States where he became a member of the anti-Zionist Satmar Chassidic sect in Brooklyn. From there, he writes in a personal blog, he moved to the Jewish region of Gush Katif in Gaza, before finally converting to Islam in Morocco. He presently is allegedly a cab driver in New York City.

According to TAM-C, lone-wolf terrorist attacks on Jewish assets and individuals are a growing phenomenon worldwide, running the gamut from vandalism to shootings and car bombings.

The organization has recommended that security personnel for Israeli and other Jewish people and properties “increase their situational awareness, enhance general protective measures for fixed assets and review emergency recovery procedures.”

No matter how much Obama panders and bends over to the Muslim world - reality will hit back. It will hit back hard.

Better wake up and smell the Jihad.

Eleven former Guantanamo inmates who underwent Saudi Arabia’s rehabilitation program for jihadists now appear to have fled the country and joined terrorist organizations abroad. Their names appear on a list of 85 wanted terrorism suspects that was released by the Saudi government on Tuesday.

At least one these suspects, Said al-Shihri — now reportedly serving as deputy chief of Al Qaeda in Yemen — was at the Saudi rehabilitation center when journalist Nancy Durham visited in 2007 and produced From Jihad to Rehab, featured in WIDE ANGLE’s Focal Point series.

Durham reached Dr. Awad Alyami, the art therapist who appears in the video, by phone after hearing about al-Shihri’s return to militancy. Al-Shihri was “not the ideal student,” Alyami said, “not really interested in doing anything with any of us.” But Alyami does not take this example to mean that the Saudi program doesn’t work. “Many students have learned how to see things in a positive way and created balance in their lives through art,” he said.
