Passover terror attack: Huge explosion rattles shawarma stand at old central bus station area in southern Tel Aviv; scores wounded. Suicide bomber identified as Sami Salim Khamad, an Islamic Jihad member

Nine people were killed Monday after a Palestinian suicide bomber detonated himself at a crowded fast food stand near Tel Aviv's old central bus station, in the city's southern Neve Sha'anan neighborhood.

At least 68 people were wounded in the huge blast, which was heard kilometers away, including one person who is in criticial condition and nine others who sustained serious wounds. Two of the victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while a third victim died on the operating table.

The name of one bombing victim, Philip Balahsan from Ashdod, was cleared for publication Monday evening. Balahsan was at the site of the bombing with his two children. His family has been notified.

The explosion occurred around 1:30 p.m. at a shawarma stand, where a previous bombing took place. This time, however, the blast was much more powerful and deadly.

According to a videotape released by the Islamic Jihad in Jenin, the attack was carried out by Sami Salim Khamad, who entered Israel from the West Bank. Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades also claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to one eyewitness account, the terrorist entered the store and detonated himself when a security guard at the site asked him to open his bag for inspection.

A short while after the explosion, police forces engaged in a chase after a blue Mitsubishi vehicle seen fleeing the area of the attack carrying three people. The vehicle was stopped a short while later and the three suspects were taken into interrogation. Later, the suspects were released after it was established they were not connected to the bombing.

Yael Garti, who witnessed the explosion, told Ynet: "I saw people running in every direction. The shock was felt in neighboring buildings. Ambulances arrived within minutes. Many people gathered in the area."

The owner of a nearby store said that he is already used to the sounds of terror attacks, but that this time the explosion was extremely powerful.

"When we left the store, we noticed a lot of injured people on the floor. We rushed back to the store and shut it down," he said.

Brigadier-General Danny Chen, deputy commander of the Tel Aviv District, told reporters: "This is a strategic, sensitive and problematic place in Tel Aviv."
The previous terror attack in the area took place in January, when an Islamic Jihad suicide bomber detonated himself next to the same shawarma stand, wounding 32 people. Following the attack, the stand owners positioned a security guard in the area.

Throughout the Passover holiday, security forces were dealing with concrete terror warnings. Large forces were deployed across the country, in central junctions and in entertainment venues. However, there was no concrete warning regarding plans for an attack in southern Tel Aviv.

Immediately after the attack, security forces raised their alert level across the country.

And to mark the anniversary, Obama says Israelis should walk in PalisteNazis shoes. More concessions and "peace" efforts - to bring Israelis back to those days and worse. I believe the results of the last election clearly say: Thanks Obama, but no thanks. Peace means "not war", it does not mean suicidal concessions in exchange for further bloodshed. On Saturday, a Bedouin girl fired shots at a base - and was killed. Her family denied the police's claims that they found evidence she was collecting Hamas propaganda on her computer. They claimed she was murdered in cold blood and the police were covering up.

Today, while sealing the home of a prior Israeli Arab terrorist who ram people with a bulldozer - another Arab tried to murder border policemen. Again he was shot dead, and again the locals claim he was murdered in cold blood.

Man rams car into cops razing bulldozer terrorist's home

An Arab motorist was shot and killed in east Jerusalem Tuesday morning after hitting three border policemen, who were overseeing the demolition of the home of a Palestinian terrorist who carried out a lethal bulldozer attack in Jerusalem last year.

The three security personnel, who were manning a security checkpoint in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Bahir, jumped out of the way and were lightly injured in the attack, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said.

Clashes erupted at the scene of the shooting, as about 50 Palestinians stoned heavily armed border police with helmets and shields, who fired back with tear gas. The driver's body was laid out on the street under a white plastic sheet with one of his hands sticking out. The windshield of his white Seat car was shattered by about 20 bullet holes.

The demolition crew was destroying the top floor of a two-story home where 30-year-old Hussam Dwayat had lived. In July 2008, Dwayat used a huge yellow bulldozer that he worked with on a Jerusalem railway project in a deadly rampage down a main city thoroughfare.

He steamrolled everything in his path, plucking cars off the street, swinging them in the air and then crushing them to the ground with passengers trapped inside. At one point, he rammed into the back of a crowded bus, flipping it on its side.

He killed three people, wounded more than 45 and sent hundreds of panicked residents running for cover before an off-duty soldier shot him dead.

Dwayat's use of a construction vehicle as a weapon was a departure from terrorists' previous attacks, mostly suicide bombings and shooting sprees. But since then, it appears to have spawned two copycat attacks - as well as a third incident in which a Palestinian motorist tried to ram into a crowd of soldiers walking along a sidewalk.

The demolition of Dwayat's home had previously been delayed by legal appeals.

Israel's practice of demolishing terrorists' homes, as a deterrent against future attackers, was suspended in recent years. It is widely condemned by human rights groups and Palestinians as collective punishment.

Should I attempt to put the word "disaster" back into context?


The so called disaster is not a matter of who one - or who suffered more casualties. The problem discussed is a realization that Iran's proxy are trained as heavily armed and highly motivated military forces. The concept - which failed - still treated them as minor insurgents. There was no room for that concept to begin with because intelligence prior to the war as well as pretty visible signs suggested otherwise. In that sense, it is a political failure which led to failure to prepare the IDF for the war, even though they knew it was due.

The consequence was the Israeli public throwing both irresponsible "leaders" of Israel to the trash bin of politics. Olmert and Peretz were two imbeciles - unworthy of their position. Sadly for the US, current commander and chief seems to be as qualified and "combat smart" as they were.

There's no "disaster". There's a price to war - and when your opponent is as armed and trained as it is - the price goes up. How committed is the leadership and the armed forces to pursue victory? First one has to define victory as well as diplomatic resolve to achieve said goals.

If the leadership in Israel was unwilling to send ground forces deep, to occupy for months, and eventually take hold of every Shiite stronghold to uproot and disarm the enemy - they should not have made any proclamations which could have been interpreted as such. Occupation is always the last resort solution (not the cause to a conflict). One would hope that Lebanese would have learned a lesson or two regarding inviting blood and pain upon their people - however they are commanded by lunatics and religious fanatics who reside in a far away land and are willing to sacrifice every Arab Lebanee for their own glorification.

Just hours after North Korea launched a long-range rocket, President Barack Obama called for "a world without nuclear weapons" and said the United States has a “moral responsibility" to lead the way, as the only nation ever to use them.

Obama’s speech was long planned as the centerpiece of his first presidential trip overseas, but it gained new urgency after North Korea sent a multi-part rocket soaring over the Sea of Japan early Sunday morning.

North Korea insisted the launch was meant to put a satellite into space but the U.S. and other nations believe Pyongyang is trying to develop the capability to launch a nuclear warhead.

The president, who was woken up just after 4:30 a.m. local time by news of the launch, spoke to the authoritarian state in remarks hastily added to his text.

“Now is the time for a strong international response, and North Korea must know that the path to security and respect will never come through threats and illegal weapons,” Obama said to a crowd estimated at 20,000 in the cobblestone square at the elegant Prague Castle, in what was the largest audience of his five-country, eight-day swing.

“All nations must come together to build a stronger, global regime. And that's why we must stand shoulder to shoulder to pressure the North Koreans to change course.”

Even without what Obama called North Korea’s “provocation,” the speech was set against considerable symbolism.

The president directly addressed the Cold War history of this former Soviet bloc city, calling the remaining nuclear weapons “the most dangerous legacy” of that era.

US officials are considering whether to accept Iran’s pursuit of uranium enrichment, which has been outlawed by the United Nations and remains at the heart of fears that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons capability.

As part of a policy review commissioned by President Barack Obama, diplomats are discussing whether the US will eventually have to accept Iran’s insistence on carrying out the process, which can produce both nuclear fuel and weapons- grade material.
“There’s a fundamental impasse between the western demand for no enrichment and the Iranian dem­and to continue enrichment,” says Mark Fitzpat­rick, a former state depart­- ­­ment expert now at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. “There’s no obvious compromise bet­ween those two positions.”

The US has insisted that Iran stop enrichment, although Mr Fitzpatrick notes that international offers put to Tehran during George W. Bush’s second term as president left the door open to the possible resumption of enrichment.

“There is a growing recognition in [Washington] that the zero [enrichment] solution, though still favoured, simply is unfeasible,” says Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council. “The US may still have zero as its opening position, while recognising it may not be where things stand at the end of a potential agreement.”

Mr Fitzpatrick adds: “Obviously, no country wants to flag its fallback positions in advance. As soon as you let your falback position be known, it becomes the new position.”

On Friday, Mr Obama summarised the US message to Iran as, “Don’t develop a nuclear weapon” – a form of words that would not rule out a deal accepting Iranian enrichment. Mr Bush was much more specific in calling Iran to halt enrichment.

A series of UN Security Council resolutions since 2006 has forbidden Iran from enriching uranium, with the European Union, Russia and China backing US calls for Tehran to halt the process.

But Iran has sped up its programme during that time and has installed more than 5,500 centrifuges to enrich uranium and has amassed a stockpile of more than 1,000kg of low-enriched uranium – enough, if it were enriched to higher levels, to produce fissile material for one bomb. “Across the political spectrum in Iran, enrichment as a right has become a non-negotiable position,” Mr Parsi said.

Asked last month whether the administration was considering allowing Iran to keep a limited enrichment capability, Robert Wood, a state department spokesman, said: “I don’t know . . .  Let’s let the review be completed and then we can spell out our policies.”

Gunman Shoots Immigrants Taking Citizenship Test in Upstate New York, Killing at Least 13

A gunman opened fire on immigrants taking a citizenship exam in upstate New York Friday, killing as many as a dozen people before committing suicide, officials said.

The bloodbath killed at least 13 including the 41-year-old gunman, who is of Asian descent and lived in the Binghamton suburb of Johnson City. Officials warned that the death toll could rise.

Voong, who also goes by the name Linh Phat Voong, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a local law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Voong blocked the back door of the building with his car, then stormed in through the front entrance about 10:30 a.m. while firing a high-powered gun. Several people were taken hostage.

The gunman wore a bright green nylon jacket and dark-rimmed glasses as he executed victim after victim, according to local media. His body was found on first floor with a hunting knife jammed into the waistband of his pants, the reports said.

UN Human Rights Council Seeks to indict Israel of War Crimes

UN names Jewish judge to lead Gaza war crimes investigation

The United Nations on Friday appointed a widely respected South African judge who is a trustee of Hebrew University to lead a high-level mission to investigate alleged war crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip during Operation Cast Lead.

Israel refused to say if it would cooperate.

Richard Goldstone, the former UN chief prosecutor for war crimes in Yugoslavia and Rwanda, was named to head the investigation ordered by the Human Rights Council in January.

According to the mandate, the investigation should focus on Palestinian victims of the three-week operation against Hamas earlier this year.

But Goldstone, a Jewish former judge of the South African constitutional court, said his team would investigate "all violations of international humanitarian law" before, during and after the conflict that ended Jan. 18.

"It's in the interest of the victims. It brings acknowledgment of what happened to them. It can assist the healing process," he told reporters in Geneva. "I would hope it's in the interests of all the political actors, too."

Martin Uhomoibhi, the council president, explained the apparent contradiction by saying the mission always intended to evaluate the proportionality of Israel's response, which requires that acts of both warring parties be examined.

"I am confident that the mission will be in a position to assess in an independent and impartial manner all human rights and humanitarian law violations committed in the context of the (Gaza) conflict," he said in a statement.

This committee is instructed not to seek out the truth but to single out Israel for alleged crimes," said Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry. He called the 47-nation body "discredited" and said it has no "practically credibility at all."

Goldstone said he was "shocked, as a Jew," to be invited to head the mission.

"It adds an additional dimension," said Gladstone, who is on the board of governors at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. "I've taken a deep interest in what happens in Israel. I'm associated with organizations that have worked in Israel. And I believe I can approach the daunting task that I have accepted in an evenhanded and impartial manner."

In our insane world - it's normal for 16 year olds to be chased by an axe-wielding maniac screaming Allah Akbar - he's the victim of "occupation" and "oppression".

Axe-wielding terrorist kills boy, 16, wounds 7-year-old

An axe-wielding terrorist infiltrated the West Bank settlement of Bat Ayin Thursday afternoon, killing a 16-year-old boy after hitting him in the head, and stabbing a 7-year-old with a knife.

Government spokesman Mark Regev called the attack a "senseless act of brutality against innocents."

Speaking by phone from the scene, Magen David Adom paramedic Ronen Bashri told The Jerusalem Post that ambulances and emergency response teams were called to the settlement after receiving a report of an axe attack.

"We found a seven-year-old boy fully conscious with a head injury caused by a sharp object," Bashri said. "And we found a 16-year-old whom we had to declare dead on the scene."

Cringe those diplomats. Please - those diplomats can't be cringed by murder of children, so at least make them realize that these murders dissuade normal people from supporting suicidal "peace" proposals.

A Palestinian security official told Ynet an initial PA investigation into the attack showed that the terrorist apparently was not sent by any organization but was working on his own.

The Imad Mughniyah Brigades, part of Fatah's military arm, the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, took responsibility for the attack. However, the security official said that this is not credible.
